Katarina Wit first started skating at five years old. It was her chance to demonstrate her talent and gain entry into the Karl-Marx-Stadt special school specifically designed for gifted kids. The coach Jutta was also at the school. Witt was second place at the World Championships of Copenhagen in 1982. Her debut was a huge success. The elegance and grace of Witt drew the attention of the world and she's been a dominant figure skater ever since. Olympic success at the Sarajevo Winter Games of 1984, Katarina Witz won the female gold medal in figure skating after an intense contest. It was her victory from four years prior that was a lot closer. Although she lost in the competition for free skating, the gold was awarded for her performance on the compulsory figures and the short program. Witt became the very first repeat winner in women's figure skating in the sport since Sonja Henie. Hall of Fame Witt had many successes in her acting career but she returned to her sports in order to compete during the Lillehammer Winter Games of 1994. Fans were amazed by her, despite her having placed seventh. In 1995, Witt was inducted into the World Figure Skating Hall of Fame.
